James Bond Charity Ball

Another resounding success for Atlantic Soul last Friday when we played at the packed Cameron House Hotel on Loch Lomond at the Helensburgh and Lomond Carers Trust Charity Ball for the 10th anniversary shindig.  The feedback we received from the guests and organisers alike once again was exactly what our clients expect from the band, comments like “fantastic”, “amazing band”, “absolutely awesome”, “you were phenomenal” and we’re continually delighted when you tell us how much you enjoy what we do.

It turned out it wasn’t a particularly easy gig to organise as time went on, not least due to the weather.  By the time the event had finished, it was a raging blizzard outside!  And the fact that it was another James Bond themed event meant that the band had to put time into learning songs from Bond films – and Bond songs are not the easiest of songs to play, or to sing.

Coupled with the fact that two days before, the lead singer of the band developed a virus which made her lose her voice, it was a very anxious time in the days before it, self-medicating with all sorts of lotions and potions and remedies to recover vocal dynamics that an Atlantic Soul gig, and especially singing Bond songs, demands.

But all went well.  Perseverance and professionalism won the day.  Starting out dramatically with “Diamonds are Forever”, we went on to play “Goldeneye” and “For Your Eyes Only” to open up a night of live music and non-stop dancing.

Joining in the fun was Scottish TV interior designer John Amabile, who was the MC for the evening.  Thank you too to John for the extremely complimentary comments about the band and the show.

The décor was excellent and tied in with the theme extremely well – see the pics of some of the tables.  Every table’s name had a Bond link – “Octopussy”, “Diamonds are Forever” etc.

Not sure at this point in time how much money was raised for charity as the Trust’s website is down at the moment, but everyone did participate and did give generously.

Well done to everyone who took part.  We were all very much shaken (our booty) but not stirred (because of the weather).

And the band absolutely loved getting into the spirit of the theme by dressing in Bond-style clothes.  Or I liked to pretend on the night – sexy spies masquerading as musicians. Judge for yourselves below.
